En los últimos años se ha popularizado y extendido la marcha nórdica conocida internacionalmente como Nordic Walking, que consiste simplemente en caminar con la ayuda de bastones similares a los de esquiar; es el esquí de fondo para cuando no hay nieve.
La curiosidad fue la razón que llevó a iniciarme en este nuevo deporte, y, ¿qué fue lo que me enganchó? Pues bien, aparte de todos los beneficios físicos que aporta, éste es un deporte que se puede practicar a lo largo de todo el año, en cualquier clima y lo puede realizar una persona de cualquier edad o habilidad.
Asimismo, el Nordic Walking es un ejercicio de cuerpo entero que pone en funcionamiento los músculos de la parte superior del cuerpo y, permite así, quemar más calorías que caminando de manera normal.
Por otro lado está la zona en la que lo práctico. Ésta siempre es al aire libre y así puedo presenciar paisajes que, de otra forma, pasaría por alto. En este caso son los alrededores de Cala d’Or y Cala Egos; la ruta desde Club Martha’s Resort al Parc Natural de Mondragó; las estrechas carreteras, los caminos olvidados, las playas de Mallorca; todo ello se conjuga formando un paisaje único, con bellísimas vistas del mar, almendros, pinares, en unas rutas de apenas dos horas que me permiten disfrutar del deporte, la naturaleza y del sol sin más límites que los que yo me imponga.
In recent years there has been a growing interest in a nordic style walk, internationally known as Nordic Walking; it consists in walking with the aid of poles, similar to ski poles. In other words, it is like skiing without the snow.
Curiosity drove me into trying this sport, and, what hooked me into it for good? Well, aside from all the physical benefits it has, this is a sport that can be practiced year round, in any weather, and it can be done by a person of every age and ability.
Furthermore, Nordic Walking is a whole body workout that powers the muscles of the upper body and, thus, permits to burn more calories than normal walking.
On the other hand, there is the ambience it is practiced in. It’s always done in the outdoors, therefore, there is a lot of scenary to take in, that, otherwise, it would be overlooked. In this case, the surroundings of Cala d’Or y CalaErgos, the trail from Club Martha’s Resort to Mondragó Natural Park, the narrow streets, the forgotten paths, Mallorca beaches. It all comes down to a unique landscape, with beatiful sights of the Mediterranean Sea, almond a pine trees, in trails of a little under two hours that allows people to exercise and enjoy the outdoors without limits.

Portocolom is Felanitx‘s port. It is a calm seaworthy port placed in the south-east of the Island of Majorca, being one of the major natural ports of the Island, refuge of many ships during the summer, looking for his calm waters. Excellent place for those persons who look for a place to find the typical seaworthy captivation, the captivation of a fishermen’s port. The typical print of it’s lighthouse on the bay and Sant Salvador’s santuary stands out. The walks along the port that thousands of tourists discover every year and many of them already are captive residents of our port are marvellous. Club Martha’s is located about 10 km away from Portocolom.
The strong growth suffered by Portocolom, immediately after the tourists’s massive arrival and the construction of hotels have not managed to destroy theprint of seaworthy port with it’s so picturesque places.

Felanitx is a municipality of Balearic Islands, Spain. Placed to the southeast of the island of Majorca and in the region of the Migjorn. Fields with Santanyí, Campos, Porreres, Villafranca de Bonany and Manacor. Felanitx’s name, comes from the Latin, Fenales, which means “areas of hay”.
The gighest points of the municipality are:
San Salvador (509 meters). In this mountain there is a monastery of the same name.
Sa Comuna (429 meters).
Santueri’s castle (408 meters). In the top of this mountain there is a castle, used before the conquest of the island by Jaume I of Aragón.
“Els Cavallets” is a set of ritual dances from Felanitx. These dances appeared in 1603 when Sant Agustí’s Convent had been founded. The church supported these traditional dances up to the disentailment of 2008, when from 1881 the own town council of the city managed them.
The Cavallets is a group of 7 children (the girls can dance for some years now, before it was a totally masculine group) of between 10 and 13 years. They all are dressed in white trousers, red jacket and green hat. The Lady is dressed in white, pink, a green jacket andred hat. The Lady takes a handkerchief with wich she marks the compass and indicates the beginning of the dance. Each of the dances has a name, and some of them even have their own music.

Cala Ferrera, near the well known Cala Serena, is small, with beach facilities and has predominantly exclusive houses in its vicinity. Since legal urbanisation of the cove in 1966 many have come to live there all year round, captivated by its character. In front of the cove there is an islet which is well worth a visit and if one climbs to the summit of the Puig one gets exceptional views and further on the “Santuari de Creu de Picat” offers unparalleled photographic opportunities for the whole region.
The water depth is ten metres at certain points, the seabed covered in seaweed and sand, so anchoring is a good option here, except when the wind comes out of the east or south east.
The services are of a high standard here with everything from showers, changing rooms, hotels, restaurants, and emergency medical help to the renting of peddle boats, sun shades and sun beds, which cover most of its 60 metre long beach. Cala Ferrera, being a very deep cove, is almost hidden from the sea.

Santanyí is a Majorcan, southern municipality, belonging to the region of the Migjorn. It borders on Ses Salines, Campos and Felanitx. It has numerous touristic “calas” (beaches), as Cala Figuera, Cala Santanyí, Cala Llombards, Cala Mondragó and Cala d’Or, and other places like s’Alqueria Blanca, Calonge, Es Llombards, Es Cap des Moro and Portopetro. We must emphasize also the sanctuary of “Nostra Senyora de Consolació”, of great popular devotion, in s’Alqueria Blanca’s surrounding areas, as well as the Gothic church of “el Roser” in the capital of the municipality.
Santanyí’s municipality has an economy based on tourism, which focuses on Cala d’Or, Portopetro and Cala Santanyí. It has in addition an important industry of handcrafted stone in which stands out “la Pedra de Santanyí”.
Santanyí lately has transformed in an important core, specially in the field of painting, music and poetry, up to the point of which the literary investigator Jaume Vidal Alcover, teacher in the University of Tarragona, has managed to speak about Santanyí’s poetical School, which has influenced the whole insular poetry of the different promotions of the postwar.
Club Martha's
Cala d’Or is a town within the municipality of Santanyí, located in the southeastern part of Majorca (Balearic Islands), in the east of Spain. Near this town are Cala Ferrera, Cala Serena, Cala Egos and Portopetro. It is the biggest population center and largest tourist center of the municipality.
Cala d’Or is one of the first tourist coastal urbanizations of Majorca, constructed about 1933. In the begining it was meant to reproduce an image of Ibiza, predominating white houses with flat covers, thanks to Pep Costa, promoter of the idea and originally from Ibiza. The orginal name was of Cala d’Hort, tough it derived towards the current Cala d’Or.
Cala d’Or has the monument of “Es Fortí”, constructed in 1730 in Cala Llonga, used during the Spanish Succession war.
In 1934 the first person is born in the urbanization of Cala d’Or.
Places of interest: the “Marina of Cala d’Or”, a a sports port constructed in a natural opening of the coast, in 1969.
